Merribell Parsons joined the San Antonio Museum of Art in November 2013 as the Curator of European Art. Ms. Parsons previously served as the Director of the Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Ohio, the Assistant Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and Chief Curator and Curator of Sculpture and Decorative Arts at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During her time in all three positions, she also served as adjunct professor of art history and museum studies at local universities, namely the University of Minnesota, Institute of Fine Arts (New York University), and the Ohio State University. Ms. Parson’s has authored numerous articles and exhibition catalogs, she was also staff liaison with architects and designers for major building projects at each museum at which she worked, such as the Kenzo Tange additions to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the creation of the multimillion dollar addition of the Uris Center for Education at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the reinstallation of the Columbus Museum of Art. She completed fellowships at the Ford Foundation; Kunsthistorisches Institute, Rome; Instituto Roberto Longhi, Florence; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ms. Parsons earned her M.A. in Art History at the Institute of Fine Arts (New York University), a BFA at Newcomb College, Tulane University, and a Diploma in Museum Management at Columbia University.
