Yoshitoshi (1839 to 1892): Japanese Print Artist in a Changing World - Lecture by John Stevenson

Widely acknowledged as one of the greatest Japanese print artists, Taiso Yoshitoshi was a creative genius. In conjunction with the yearlong rotating exhibition "Seasons of Beauty: Yoshitoshi's Thirty-two Aspects of Daily Life", John Stevenson’s talk will contextualize the print series depicting beautiful women by presenting Yoshitoshi’s fascinating biography and his changing artistic styles. Yoshitoshi witnessed great social and cultural upheavals over his lifetime that are reflected in his designs, both style and content.
 
About the Speaker:
John Stevenson is author of a dozen books on Asian art, including Yoshitoshi’s Women, a study of “Thirty-two Aspects of Daily Life,” the subject of the “Seasons of Beauty” exhibition.  Mr. Stevenson has authored three other books on the artist: Yoshitoshi’s Thirty-Six Ghosts, Yoshitoshi’s One Hundred Aspects of the Moon, and Yoshitoshi’s Strange Tales.
