2010 Japanese Film Series (lecture)

Lecture by Dr. Peter Siegenthaler, Senior Lecturer, Department of History, Texas State University. Auditorium. Free with Museum admission.
Dr. Siegenthaler kicks off the 2010 Japanese Film Series with a lecture entitled "Twilight of the Shoguns: Remembering the Bakumatsu in Film." The films shown on August 10, 17 and 24 focus on the ways in which nostalgia for the bakumatsu has been presented by filmmakers. The selections span over many decades, from the heyday of Japanese film in the 1920s and 1930s, through the postwar period of the late 1940s and 1950s, and into the "cruel" samurai films of the 1960s and 1970s.
The 2010 Japanese Film Series is presented by The Japan Foundation, New York, and SAMA's Friends of Asian Art.
