Self-guided tours must be scheduled at least one week in advance and are generally available at any time during normal museum hours.
Docent Led Tours for school groups are led by SAMA's trained docents who provide 50-minute tours designed to meet school curriculum needs.
The Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) is a tour based on the principles of Discovery Learning. This tour is different because the students express their opinions of the art, allowing them to gain confidence in their own thinking process. VTS develops critical and creative thinking and improves communication and visual literacy skills through the use of specially selected artworks and developmentally based questions. This tour allows students to look at art in new ways.
Meets many Language Arts and Fine Art 3-12 TEKS.
Wednesday Workshops are offered during the school year (September-May) from 9:45 -11:45 am, and are appropriately designed for elementary, middle and high school curriculum levels. Trained docents present these two hour educational experiences consisting of a specialized guided tour of the galleries, and followed by a hands-on project that is related to the culture and theme.
Admission fees are $3 per student and $3 per chaperone. One chaperone is required per ten students.
We can accommodate approximately 20-30 students per workshop.
