Donald Lokuta took over 10,000 photographs documenting the daily life of George Segal. A selection of these images comprises the exhibition Donald Lokuta Photographs: George Segal, an Intimate Portrait, on view in the Focus Gallery from June 2 – July 22, 2007. According to Lokuta, “These photographs show the art in the environment in which it was created and at the moment it was created. They show the creative space—how the studio looked, and the stages of progress of many works. These are not orchestrated or commissioned portraits. They are personal, private vignettes. Looking at the pictures I hope the viewer will get closer to the mind of the artist, and will understand the nature of the man.”One of Segal’s characteristic plaster sculptures, Her Arm Crossing His (1975), is in the permanent collection of the San Antonio Museum of Art and will be on display with the exhibition.
