The San Antonio Museum of Art seeks a highly motivated individual to fill a position as Curatorial Assistant in the department of Art of the Ancient Mediterranean World. The curatorial department holds a collection of more than 3,500 works of art representing the ancient cultures of Egypt, the Near East, Greece and Rome as well as Islamic art. The curatorial assistant reports to the Curator of Art of the Ancient Mediterranean World and is responsible for assisting the Curator with all aspects of this collection. The curatorial assistant will provide support for the organization of original and loan exhibitions; for the maintenance of the permanent collection, including record keeping and gallery changes; and for departmental activities including research, publications, educational programs, special events, and donor relations.
The position is part-time (20-25 hours/week). The weekly schedule is flexible; the curatorial assistant will preferably be available for occasional programs and events in the evenings and on weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Arts degree, preferably in Art History, Classical Studies or a related field
- Prior museum experience desirable
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and follow-through skills
- Willingness and ability to manage multiple tasks in an active and evolving department
- Records maintenance and information research skills
- Computer proficiency in Windows and Macintosh operating systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Photoshop, and skills in use of the internet
- Demonstrated skills in scanning and in processing digital images
- Must have reliable transportation
