SAMA Starts the School Year with new Free Admission for Kids 12 and Under on Family Days
SAN ANTONIO
After launching the First Sundays for Families program in the January 2009, the San Antonio Museum of Art has reached thousands of San Antonio children every first Sunday of the month with innovative art and learning activities, food, music and the sharing of world cultures. In honor of the programs success, the San Antonio Museum of Art is now offering free admission to children 12 and under for each First Sundays for Families event.Families are such an important audience for the San Antonio Museum of Art. We believe that exposing children to art and culture with their parents helps develop curiosity, shared experiences, and creativity. By making admission to our family days free for children 12 and under, we hope we have removed any barrier to families participating in this fun program, noted Katie Erickson, AT&T Director of Education.
The next family day will take place on Sunday, September 6 and support the Museums FOTOSEPTIEMBRE exhibition, Culinary Delights: Photographs by David Halliday. Families will create and photograph tasty desserts, paint a still life, and discover how food can be used to create works of art. Music will be provided by the Flames of Red.
All family days take place between 1 and 5 pm. Subsequent family days scheduled for 2009 include:
Sunday, October 4: India!
Celebrate the Hindu holiday of Diwali, create rangoli designs, learn about Ganesh, watch a Bollywood film and sample Indian cuisine.
Sunday, November 1: Dia de Los Muertos.
Be a part of the citys celebration with special workshops, and view altars created by art students.
